Plus, catch a movie on a rooftop and our favorite new restaurants
Time Out #3 | Tuesday 25 August, 2020
Medieval wine windows are making a comeback and now there’s one in Silver Lake
We’ve got more in common with the Middle Ages than we’d like to admit these days, but at least we now get the perk of medieval wine windows (hatched when Tuscan vendors needed to find a plague-resistant way to serve wine to customers—sound familiar?). Vinovore, the woman-owned and women-focused bottle shop in Silver Lake, is now serving bottles and cans through its own wine window, so you can stock up while still staying safe.

What's new in food?
Keep up with some of L.A.’s newest
restaurant openings
As some of our favorite restaurants shutter, it can look like a pretty bleak time in L.A. dining scene. But in the past couple of weeks, we’ve also seen new patios and takeout spots open all over the city. Keep up with some of our recent favorites below.
A retro-inspired curry diner
One of Japan’s biggest chains, Champion Curry, is planting its U.S. flagship in a retro diner-themed spot in Little Tokyo. The signature brown curry is all over the menu, poured over cheesy fries and rice and served alongside katsu.
A colorful Mexican cantina
Head to the border of Venice and Marina del Rey to find Nueva, where the tacos and ceviches are as colorful as the patio. Swing by on weekends for shakshuka ranchos, vegan scrambles and breakfast quesadillas.
A British pub at the Farmers Market
Chef Brendan Collins has brought a British Invasion playlist and his takes on plenty of iconic dishes to this pub and patio on Fairfax, including beans on toast, bangers and mash, and an all-day full English breakfast.
A katsu sando spot in Chinatown
Smorgasburg vendor Katsu Sando has found a permanent home to serve its panko-crusted pork loin, chicken breast, mushroom, wagyu and shrimp stacked between slabs of pillowy house-baked honey milk bread.

9 secluded Airbnbs within a couple hours of Los Angeles
So you want to get away—really get away—from L.A. We’re talking a “hop in the car, pick up some groceries and never have to interact with other people” kind of getaway. We think these secluded Airbnbs—nestled into wine country orchards and acres of open desert—should do the trick. And maybe the most magical quality: They’re all within a three-hour drive of L.A., and none will maroon you in the middle of nowhere.

We don’t know who needs to hear this but...
Labor Day is only a couple of weeks away, but summer sure doesn’t feel like it’s going away anytime soon with this heat wave.
