Also, Time Out Market New York reopens today!
Time Out No. #9 | Mon 24 August, 2020
This fridge is full of free food
A lime green fridge full of free food has popped up outside Greenpoint’s The Lot Radio. The fridge is part of an initiative by North Brooklyn Mutual Aid which is hoping to bring greater solidarity to communities through food and to empower individuals through easier access to nourishment. “We don’t have things set...we simply trust that the community is going to step up to take care of their neighbors and it has,” says Kevin LaCherra, a coordinator for North Brooklyn Mutual Aid and fourth generation Greenpoint resident. Read more about the inspiring initiative and how it’s bringing the North Brooklyn community together.
The weekend lowdown
EAT: Lower East Side favorite Katz's Deli recently launched outdoor dining for the first time in its 132 year history, and now they have their own delivery service.

DRINK: Wayla's hidden backyard is one of the hottest spots in town for Thai food, but it's the refreshing, creative cocktails—try the rum-fueled Hanabi Milk Punch—that keep me coming back.

DO: At Bushwick Inlet Park, you’ll find 186 portraits that make up the powerful "Say Their Names Memorial," reminding us of the ongoing racial injustices we cannot forget.

Dine on an aircraft carrier
In a summer where the unexpected has become the norm, this still had us doing a double take. The Baylander Steel Beach is a new Harlem venue with a very unique location: It’s located on a tiny aircraft carrier in Upper Manhattan off 125th Street. The Navy ship was used during the Vietnam War and was moored in various locations around the metropolitan area before finding its current home uptown. Now, you can enjoy lobster rolls, burgers and drinks on its spacious outdoor deck.

Time Out Market New York reopens today!
It’s hard to believe that it’s been over four months since Time Out Market closed its doors, but we’re ready to welcome you back to the DUMBO waterfront! Seven eateries and two full-service bars are included in the market’s first phase of reopening today, along with hundreds of outdoor seats just steps from Brooklyn Bridge Park. Juicy burgers from Pat LaFrieda, delicious tacos from Ivy Stark, mouth-watering fried chicken sandwiches from Jacob’s Pickles and more will be available for you to enjoy in either our gorgeous outdoor spaces or the comfort of your own apartment.
Take a free virtual art tour
Didn’t make it to that big Basquiat exhibition at The Brant Foundation last year? Well, now you can “walk” through all four floors of the show without having to leave your couch. The foundation has put its entire (very cool) exhibition online as an immersive virtual tour . It really does feel like you’re actually there! And since it may be quite some time until any of us step foot inside an actual art museum again, you may want to take advantage of this opportunity to at least pretend you are.
