Your guide to outdoor dining in NYC |
Something pretty unique happened last Friday. As Tropical Storm Fay moved into New York, restaurants across the city announced they were closing due to the downpour. It was just one more sign of how much NYC’s restaurants are now relying solely on outdoor dining this summer. From streets now covered in tables instead of cars to backyard gardens full of socially distanced seats, New York’s restaurant scene is happening entirely outside. So we’ve created a
comprehensive guide to everything you need to know to about dining outside right now—featuring street recommendations, tips on doing it safely and the most up-to-date info on al fresco dining in the city.

The Week Ahead |
"Ordering a takeout pie from Paulie Gee's is the perfect way to start the week (it's the first time the beloved Greenpoint pizza joint has allowed it in six years). For New Yorkers focused on maintaining their joie de vivre throughout quarantine, there are still ways to
celebrate Bastille Day this year from home. Or if you're simply looking for a laugh (who isn't?), be sure to find out when Saturday Night Live comedian Michael Che is performing next in Long Island City." |

Governors Island is finally open! |
|
No New York summer is complete without a trip to Governors Island. But, sadly, the sprawling, 172-acre island has been closed this entire summer as the city remained under lockdown. Luckily, that’s about to change this Wednesday when the green space reopens once again for recreational activities (along with some great food and drink options.) Want to escape there for the day? You’ll need to reserve a timed ticket to help the island operate at limited capacity.

Take a scenic drive |
|
Looking for a drive with a view? The Palisades Parkway offers some of the most spectacular views of the Hudson River Valley. Just leave the city on the George Washington Bridge and drive up to the Bear Mountain Bridge. Starting about one hour north of the city, you’ll start seeing some breathtaking vistas of the river.
