Time Out No. #7 | Mon 24 August, 2020
Time Out Market New York returns with outdoor dining August 5!
After pausing in March, we’ve been waiting for the right moment to reopen Time Out Market New York and serve New Yorkers the best of our city. Now, after implementing new systems and safety precautions, we’re ready to welcome you back starting on Wednesday, August 5. Finally, guests can soak in the summer weather with sweeping views of Manhattan’s skyline and the Brooklyn Bridge while they enjoy food and drinks from the first set of seven eateries and two full service bars to open—including Ivy Stark, Pat LaFrieda Meat Purveyors, Bessou, Jacob’s Pickles, FELICE Pasta Bar, Fish Cheeks and Ice & Vice. We’ll have nearly 250 distanced seats along the river, a rooftop terrace, and for those who want to take their dishes to go, Brooklyn Bridge Park is within walking distance. So, when you’re ready, come join us for a socially distanced happy hour every day from 4 to 7pm on our rooftop!

The weekend lowdown
EAT: This weekend, grab a new Picnic in the Park package from White Oak Tavern and take it to Washington Square Park. Picnickers will get two entrees, fries, and two alcoholic drinks. Don’t worry, a picnic towel and tote are included!

DRINK: Order the “HiLo Hello” (mezcal with Thai-chili infused tequila, passionfruit, and lime) at the new High Low Beverage Company in Bushwick for something to cool you down and get the weekend started off (or finished) just right.

DO: Grab a blanket (and your mask) and head over to Queens’ Culture Lab LIC for some free live music by Pound, King Crash, or The Terraza Big Band. Grab dinner from on-site food trucks for your picnicking pleasure.

Catch culture outdoors
Maybe you’re looking for a new perspective this weekend. You’ll find it at Astoria’s Socrates Sculpture Park, where gigantic art sits out in the open, from Jeffrey Gibson’s ziggurat inspired by pre-Columbian earthen mounds to Paul Ramírez Jonas’ towering obelisk. The best part? It’s all set to the backdrop of the Manhattan skyline across the East River.

Read more about what cool sculptures you’ll see at the park here.

This Brooklyn music venue has reopened as a tropical restaurant
Popular music and events space 99 Scott has transformed its sprawling courtyard into a restaurant with nightly entertainment, including curated music playlists to weekly film screenings, called Outerspace . The tropical plant-filled oasis is equipped for times of social distancing with 126 outdoor seats surrounded by tall potted palms for safe division and privacy. This might be the most comfortable restaurant in the city to safely dine out right now without worrying about throngs of crowds or close-quarter sidewalk dining. The food at Outerspace is fresh, too—chefs Conner Updegrave and Luis Herrera are turning out a hyper-seasonal and locally-sourced menu that’ll change frequently.

Upstate art hotspot Dia Beacon has a reopening date
The culture hub, which is situated in the old Nabisco plant in Beacon, New York, is less than two hours from the city and has permanent collections featuring Andy Warhol, Gerhard Richter and Richard Serra. It’s reopening on August 7 with a sound installation by acclaimed Detroit-based techno DJ and producer Carl Craig, but Dia Beacon is keeping it small—hours will be reduced, as will the number of visitors at one time, and of course, everyone must wear a face mask.
